JAKARTA, NETRALNEWS.COM - Intel has broken the assumption that the iPhone will be a late player in the 5G cellphone industry because of the problem of modem chip. The company says it can start making 5G modems next year.

US-based business magazine Fast Company, as reported by BGR, wrote that Intel would be the only 5G modem supplier for iPhone production from 2020. Citing anonymous sources familiar with the issue, Intel actually missed the target development of a 5G XMM 8160 modem.

Intel must be able to send samples of 5G modems to Apple in the summer of this year so that the iPhone 2020 already supports 5G networks. Meanwhile, Intel also has to send a modem design that is final in early 2020 so that the iPhone can 5G can launch in September next year.

A spokesman for Intel in an official statement to Fast Company stated "Intel plans to support consumer devices that launch in 2020 with a multimode XMM 8160 5G modem.

Although not specifically mentioning Apple in the statement, the assumption directly point to the iPhone because Intel is currently supplying modems for the cellphone.

Apple is relatively slow from the Android mobile phone manufacturer in dealing with 5G network devices, since last year big players in the mobile industry are competing to be the first to launch phones that support 5G networks.

Samsung and Huawei have already launched their 5G cellphone products a few months ago, while the latest iPhone manufactured in 2018 hasn't supported the 5G network, and so is the iPhone that will be launched this year.
