Researchers Find Traces of First America Human in Chile (special)

JAKARTA, NETRALNEWS.COMResearchers from the United States found 15,600 years old footprints in southern Chile. The discovery is believed to be the oldest in America.

Footprints were first discovered in 2010 by an Austral University student in Chile. The scientists then examined for several years to rule out the possibility that these traces might have originated from several other animal species and to determine the age estimates of these fossils.

Karen Moreno, a paleontologist from Austral University who oversaw the study, said the researchers also found animal bones near the site, including primitive elephants, but they ensured that the footprints were evidence of human existence.

Moreno said this was proof of the first human existence in America that was more than 12,000 years old.

"Gradually in South America we began to find sites with evidence of human existence, but this is the oldest discovery in the United States," he said quoted from Antara.
