NEW DELHI, NETRALNEWS.COM - An aircraft belonging to the Indian air force on Monday was reported missing in the remote mountains bordering China, government officials said.

The AN-32 aircraft, which is usually used for transportation, departed from Jorhat City in Assam State to Menchuka City in Arunachal Pradesh State.

However, at around 07.30 GMT (14.30 Indonesian western time) the plane, carrying 13 people, lost contact.

"Eight crew and five passengers were on the plane."

Air forces began searching, including deploying Sukhoi fighter jets, other government officials said.

Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, who was sworn in last week, said his office was coordinating with a number of senior air force officials.

"I pray that all plane passengers will be safe," he wrote on a Twitter account, Reuters reported on Monday (3/6/2019).
