PUMALANGA, NETRALNEWS.COM - A priest in South Africa had tried to replicate the biblical story of Jesus walking on water. However, he was tragically killed by crocodiles.

The priest, who was identified as Jonathan Mthethwa, attempted to demonstrate his faith to his congregation by walking on the surface of a river known as the Crocodile River. Mthethwa was a priest of a local church in White River Mpumalanga, South Africa. He died after being attacked and eaten by crocodiles in the river.

According to the Daily Post, the priest fell into the Crocodile River witnessed by members of his congregation. The priest was quickly devoured by three crocodiles in the river, within minutes all that was left were his clothes and a pair of sandals.

"He promised to show his faith to us, but unfortunately he drowned and was eaten by three large crocodiles in front of our very eyes. We still do not understand how this could have happened because he fasted and prayed all week," said Deacon Nkosi a member of the church.

Local emergency team responded to the incident 30 minutes later, but the priest had already died when they arrived on the scene.
