LONDON, NETRALNEWS.COM - The London Metropolitan Police has reported that a man who coughed in front of a police officer and threatened to transmit the coronavirus has been sent to prison to serve a sentence of up to six months.
The man, named Adam Lewis, was found guilty of attack related to the incident. At that time, Lewis claimed to have been infected by the coronavirus and told a police officer that "I will cough in front of your face and you will be infected". He immediately coughed in front of the officer.
The policeman, who was patrolling the central London area of Westminster, approached Lewis and said he would search him after a citizen reported that Lewis was trying to open the doors of cars parked along the road.
Besides threatening and coughing in front of officers, the 55-year-old man also slammed a bottle of wine during the incident. He also threatened to bite to transmit the disease.
"Although attacks like this are fortunately very rare, the incident is very horrendous, and if we encounter this kind of unacceptable behavior, we will take firm action," said Chief Inspector of the Metropolitan Police West Area Command Unit Helen Harper.
