JAKARTA, NETRALNEWS.COM - Do you find yourself daydreaming or having wandering thoughts during meetings in the office or at home? Perhaps the daydreaming habit is not as bad as you think, but researchers show that daydreaming is indeed a sign that you are really smart and creative.
The findings show people with efficient brains may have too much brain capacity to stop their mind from wandering when performing tasks that are considered easy.
"People tend to think of wandering thoughts as something bad.You try to pay attention and you can not.Our data shows the idea that this is not always true. Some people have more efficient brains," says Eric Schumacher, Associate Professor at the Georgia Institute of Technology, Atlanta, United States, as quoted from The Indian Express.
He said, because the capacity of the brain to think more causes the brain to wander while doing easy tasks.
For the study, published in the journal Neuropsychologia, the team measured people's brain patterns as they lay on an MRI machine.
The researchers then used the data to identify which areas of the brain worked together during the wake and rest.
"The areas of the correlated brain give us insight into which areas of the brain work together during wakefulness, rest," said Christine Godwin, a doctoral student at the university.
"Interestingly, research shows that the same brain patterns measured during these countries are associated with different cognitive abilities," Godwin added.
Individuals who report more often daydreaming scored higher on intellectual and creative abilities and have a more efficient brain system measured in an MRI machine, say researchers.
