JAKARTA, NETRALNEWS.COM - Samsung Electronics' cellphone ranks the top of the mobile brand that is used by Indonesians to access the internet, according to a survey by the Association of Indonesian Internet Service Providers (APJII) in 2018.

The penetration survey and profile of APJII internet users for 2018 revealed 37.7 percent of Indonesians use Samsung brand mobile phones to connect to the Internet. But, the survey did not contain what mobile models Warganet used most in Indonesia.

The second most frequently used cellphone comes from the Oppo brand, at 18 percent, followed by Xiaomi 17.7 percent.

As much as 7.5 percent of the Indonesian people access the internet through Vivo cellphones, while Asus gets a 3.2 percent share.

IPhone cellphones occupied sixth position with 3.1 percent, followed by Lenovo 2.4 percent and 2.4 percent Advan.

The popularity of cellphones as a means to access the internet is also seen from the 2018 APJII survey, as many as 93.9 percent of respondents claimed to access the internet via cellphones every day, only 1.6 percent of respondents who never access the internet from cellphones every day.

Meanwhile, only 9.6 percent of respondents access cyberspace via desktop computers every day, where laptop users account for 17.2 percent who access every day.

As many as 96.6 percent of survey respondents answered they used data packages from cellular operators to access the internet in the last three months.

Telkomsel is the most widely used cellular operator, 43 percent, followed by Indosat Ooredoo 18.1 percent and XL 18 percent.

Indonesians use the internet the most to send messages (24.7 percent), access social media (18.9 percent) and seek employment-related information (11.5 percent).

About 19.6 percent of respondents claimed to need more than 8 hours to access the internet in a day, while those who answered 3-4 hours were 14.1 percent and between 2-3 hours 13.4 percent.
