JAKARTA, NETRALNEWS.COM – Eight schools in Bekasi and South Tangerang has simultaneously cleaned their surrounding environment from the ‘attack’ of cigarette advertisements.
Five of the eight schools, SMPN 1, SMPN 4, SMPN 17, SMPN23, and SMPN 6, are in Bekasi. The other three schools are SMPN 2, SMAN 8, and SMKN 1 in South Tangerang.
Lisda Sundari, chairperson of the Children’s Lantern Foundation, said the cleanup of cigarette ads in Bekasi was fully supported by the Bekasi administration.
The taking down of cigarette ads in the surrounding areas of the schools is the manifestation of students, teachers, and the locals near the schools that reject cigarette companies that deliberately put cigarette ads near schools to target children as replacement smokers.
“The taking down of cigarette ads is also supported by Pondok Gede subdistrict head and the city service police unit in helping students and teachers take down cigarette ads and replace the ads with banners that call for the protection of children and the next generation from becoming targets of the cigarette industry,” Lisda said.
There were a total of 15 cigarette ads that were taken down in the areas of the five schools in Bekasi.
In addition, three schools in South Tangerang have also rejected to becoming targets of the cigarette industry by taking down cigarette ads that flourish in the schools’ areas.
“The students have also conducted dissemination on rejecting being a target of cigarette industry, while at the same time garnering support from students, teachers, and the locals living near their schools,” Lisda added.
