Delayed for Several Times, 2018 League 1 Set to Kick off on March 23

JAKARTA, NNC - PT Liga Indonesia Baru (LIB) finally launched kick-off schedule of League 1 (Liga 1) of 2018 season. After several delays, PT LIB decided to hold the opening match of 2018 League 1 on March 23, 2018 which will bring Bhayangkara FC as the champion of 2017 League 1 and Persija Jakarta as the winner of the 2018 President's Cup.

"The opening match in accordance with the mutual agreement will be at Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium. The name of the competition remains Gojek-Traveloka Liga 1," said Director of PT LIB Berlington Siahaan in a press conference of Annual General Meeting of Shareholders in Jakarta, Thursday (3/8/2018).

2018 League 1 will be followed by 18 national football clubs from originally 15 football clubs in 2017 League 1. "We got arrival of new clubs from league 2, namely Persebaya Surabaya, PSMS Medan, and PSIS Semarang," said Berlington.

The competition of 2018 League 1, he said, will be suspended following the 2018 Asian Games, 2018 Regional Head Elections (Pilkada), and Eid al-Fitr holidays.

"We will see the match schedule again tomorrow. If the competition finishes on December 2, we will have a dense nine weeks from the ideal schedule of the competition for 34 weeks," Berlington added.

In addition to the pause for the Asian Games, the 2018 League 1 competition will also take place simultaneously with 2018 AFF Cup. For this matter, PT. LIB, Berlington said, will hold a meeting with club managers first on March 15, before making any decision.

Berlington also promised a live broadcast of 2018 League 1 becomes 300 games from 2017 League 1 of 260 games in addition to broadcast over the internet network for 124 games.

As reported by Antara, 2018 League 1 competition, Berlington said, will still apply a subsidy to each club for IDR7.5 billion.

PT LIB also set the competition of 2018 League 2 which will be followed by 24 football clubs that are divided into two regions, namely east and west. The 2018 League 2 will take place from April 7 to November 25 with the number of live broadcasts reaching 62 matches.
