JAKARTA, NETRALNEWS.COM - Having been absent for a year, Djarum Superliga Badminton is finally held again this year. This time the prestigious badminton tournament which competes for a total prize of $250,000 will be held at DBL Arena sport stadium of Surabaya on February 19-26, 2017.
In addition to participation from the country’s top clubs, clubs from Japan and Thailand would also enliven the women's and men's team championship.
Director of Djarum Superliga Badminton Achmad Budiharto said that they deliberately picked Surabaya because it has adequate facility and people’s enthusiasm towards badminton is very high.
Just like previous games, this year the competition certainly will be competitive. In men’s team tournament, Musica Champion is going to maintain its title competing against Djarum Kudus, Mutiara Cardinal, Berkat Abadi, Surtanaga Mutiara Timur Surabaya, USM Blibli.com and two foreign clubs: Granular Thailand and Gifu Tricky Panders Japan.
In women’s team part, Jaya Raya Jakarta will compete with Djarum Kudus, USM Blibli.com, Mutiara Cardinal, Berkat Abadi, Suryanaga Mutiara Timur Surabaya, plus Japan’s representatives, Hokuto Bank, Gifu Tricky Panders as well as Shaisunkhan Ltd along with Granular from Thailand.
Several international top star players are ensured to participate in the tournament among others, mixed doubles champion of 2016 Olympic Tontowi Ahmad/Liliyana Natsir, Tommy Sugiarto, Praveen/Debby Susanto, Hendra Setiawan, Muhammad Ahsan, Lee Yong Dae, Lee Hyun Il, Akane Yamaguchi, Tanongsak Saensonboonsuk and so on.
“This year Djarum Superliga will compete for much bigger prize than the past two years, from $200,000 to $250,000. This obviously drives interests of international top players to participate in the tournament hence it would impact on improving game quality from every organized match,” Achmad Budiharto said during press release in Bali Room, Hotel Indonesia Kempinski, Wednesday (1/11/2017).
This year Djarum Superliga tournament is the sixth organization after being successfully held in 2007, 2011, 2013, 2014 and 2015. (*)
