BARCELONA, NNC – Barcelona coach, Ernesto Valverde was happy with his team's victory over Real Madrid in El Calsico. But, Valverde also sympathized with Madrid coach, Julen Lopetegui.
Ernesto Valverde asked Real Madrid not to fire Julen Loptegui.
El Clasico's first volume of the season belongs to Barcelona. Madrid was crushed by Barcelona 1-5 when they visited Camp Nou on Sunday (10/28/2018).
Madrid reaped their fourth defeat in the last seven games. The defending Champions League champions only had two draws and one victory.
That performance put Lopetegui in a bad spot as he was considered responsible for Madrid's poor results. Rumors of his dismissal echoed, and increasingly peaked after Madrid collapsed at the Camp Nou.
"I don't like coaches being fired. Not Lopetegui, not Huesca coach, not Granada coach, and of course not Barcelona coach," Valverde said as quoted by Sky Sports.
"We know that a few moments can change the match, the ball hits the pole, but we also have to enjoy a victory like this against Madrid. To be honest I expect victory, but not results like this," he added.
The defeat caused Madrid to drop to ninth position with 14 points, seven points behind Barcelona at the top of the Spanish League standings.
