LONDON, NETRALNEWS.COM - Henrikh Mkhitaryan has to bury his dream to play for Arsenal in the Europa League final against Chelsea. The former Manchester United player is concerned about his safety amid threats if he decided to join his team in Baku, Azerbaijan, where the final match is held.

Mkhitaryan, who is from Armenia, reportedly had difficulty obtaining a visa to Azerbaijan. The two countries are involved in a conflict over the territory. Therefore, his safety will be in question if he plays there.

In the group phase, Mkhitaryan also decided to miss out when Arsenal faced Qarabag, a club from Azerbaijan.

Actually, the organizers provided security guarantees for Mkhitaryan. However, Arsenal finally took the safest way by leaving Mkhitaryan in London. This decision was taken after discussions with the family of the former Borussia Dortmiund player.

"We have seen various options so that Micki stays in the squad, but after discussing with the player and his family, we all agreed that he would not join the team," said the club's official statement.

"We have written a letter to UEFA which concerns us about this situation. Micki is our key player who has the role of bringing the team to the final. So this is a big loss for the team."

"We are also very sad that the player must miss the European competition final because of something like this, something that is very rare in the footballer's career."

"Micki will continue to participate in the preparation of the team until we leave for Baku," said the end of Arsenal's official statement.

Mkhitaryan's absence will be a big loss for the Gunners. In the Europa League, Mkhitaryan played 11 times and made three assists. In general, this season also runs not too bad for him. He played 39 times in all competitions, scoring six goals and making seven assists.
