PARIS, NETRALNEWS.COM - Johanna Konta has become the first British woman to qualify for the French Open Grand Slam semi-final in the last 36 years.

The 26th seeded women's tennis player advanced to the Roland Garros semifinals after defeating 7th seed Sloane Stephens with two straight sets 6-1, 6-4 for one hour 10 minutes.

"This is my first match in Chatrier, and being able to face a good player is a matter of pride for me," Konta said, as quoted by on Tuesday night (04/06/2019).

The 28-year-old extended her unbeaten record against Stephens to 3-0 so far this year, having previously won 6-4, 6-3 in the first round of the Australian Open and 6-7 (3), 6-4, 6-1 in second round of the Italian Open.

Konta played a truly dominant game, facing only one break point, winning 33 of the first 38 service points and hitting 25 winners in her work to match compatriot Jo Durie in 1983.

Furthermore, Konta will likely face seed number 31 Petra Martic or Marketa Vondrousova in the semifinals, both of whom are also competing tickets for the first matches in the French Open semifinals.
