JAKARTA, NETRALNEWS.COM - English Premier League club Manchester United continues to make intensive contact to land Barcelona midfielder Ivan Rakitic to Old Trafford.

Spanish daily Diario Sport wrote on Saturday (06/29/2019) that the Red Devils continue to prepare themselves to get the midfielder as anticipation if Paul Pogba leaves the club.

Barca bought the Croatian player at a price of 50 million euros, while Manchester United made a bid for 35 million euros.

Rakitic is under contract with the Camp Nou until the summer of 2021.

Barcelona signed midfielders Arturo Vidal and Arthur Melo last summer, and were able to bring in Frenkie De Jong from Ajax this summer.

Rakitic's agent, Arturo Canales, said he did not want to leave Barcelona this summer, although a number of mass media published in Spain doubted the truth of the claim.

Beginning in 2019, Diario Sport wrote that Chelsea and Inter Milan were interested in recruiting Rakitic, except that there was no clarity after the news spread widely.

Barcelona does not want to increase the number of players' salaries, and it is said that Rakitic has been promised to receive salary hike.

Rakitic played for Barcelona for five years and led the club to five times La Liga trophies, four Copa del Rey, and Champions League trophy. He scored 35 goals in 265 appearances with the Blaugrana.
