NEW YORK, NETRALNEWS.COM - The position of first choice goalkeeper at Real Madrid is still not clear. Madrid have two goalkeepers who are competing to become the main goalkeepers, Thibaut Courtois and Keylor Navas.
However, Courtois boasted that he was more suitable to be number one at the Santiago Bernabeu. The Belgian goalkeeper has performed well in Madrid's pre-season matches. In addition, Courtois felt he was in a better physical condition than last season because he managed to reduce fat in his body.
"I think now it's clear who is number one [at Real Madrid], and I feel stronger than before. I have a very good pre-season, I have trained well and I feel very good," said Courtois, as quoted by Marca.
"Last season the percentage of fat in my body was 8.8. I returned this summer with a percentage of 8.1 percent. This is a good thing after one month's vacation."
"I am in good condition and hope to continue like this," he explained.
Courtois joined Real Madrid last season from Chelsea. In his inaugural season with Los Blancos, this Belgian player appeared not too optimal.
He conceded 36 goals and only recorded eight clean sheets from 27 matches in LaLiga last season. This made him have to rotate several times with Keylor Navas.
But now, Courtois feels that this will not happen again. He is sure to have sealed the main position under the Madrid crossbar.
