NEW YORK, NETRALNEWS.COM - Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, and Roger Federer have been placed as top seeds at the United States (US) Open Grand Slam tournament that will take place on on Monday (8/26/2019) in New York.
Djokovic, who has been a US Open champion three times, has a good advantage in the US Open, as he had just won his fifth Wimbledon title. Behind Djokovic, there is US Open 2017 champion Rafael Nadal in second place.
Roger Federer will begin his 21st Grand Slam title race by finishing in third place. After Federer, the next top seed position is occupied by Dominic Thiem, Daniil Medvedev, and Alexander Zverev.
The men's tennis players who have won the US Open are on the list of 32 men competing in the US Open, including Marin Cilic (2014) from Croatia who is ranked 22nd, and Stan Wawrinka (2016) from Switzerland who is 23rd.
Meanwhile in the women's singles, world number one Naomi Osaka is given the top seed, while French Open women's champion Ashleigh Barty is in the second seed, followed by Karolina Pliskova and Wimbledon champion Simona Halep.
Serena Williams, last year's finalist, is eyeing to equal the record of 24 Grand Slam titles, and is ranked eighth, while Sloane Stephens is ranked 11th. Angelique Kerber, the 2016 US Open champion, is ranked 14th.
