TOKYO, NETRALNEWS.COM - Frenchman Johann Zarco will replace Honda LCR's team driver Takaaki Nakagami in the final three series of the 2019 MotoGP season.
Zarco will be a teammate of Cal Cructhlow in Australia, Malaysia and Valencia, while Nakagami undergoes shoulder surgery and surgery recuperation after undergoing the Japanese Grand Prix this weekend.
The two-time Moto2 world champion and best MotoGP rookie of the 2017 season have received an offer from Honda LCR team manager Lucio Cecchinello to return to riding motorbikes in the premiere class after Zarco left KTM.
"We are very sorry if Nakagami will miss the last three series this season, but on the other hand we know that injury is part of this sport," Cecchinello said, as quoted by official MotoGP website on Wednesday (10/16/2019).
"I suggested to HRC director Tetsuhiro Kuwata and team manager Alberto Puig about the idea of involving Zarco as a substitute rider and they agreed."
Cecchinello has also received a commitment from Zarco to work together until Valencia.
"I am very grateful for this opportunity and I will do my best to make good results and enjoy thr time, because this could be the last three races I can do for a while," said Zarco, who has not yet been awarded a contract for next season's race.
"I will enjoy the Phillip Island track, it is a fast track and I think I can perform well," he added.
