JAKARTA, NETRALNEWS.COM - Indonesian Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Sandiaga Uno hopes there will be more esport tournaments to support the creation of sports tourism options in Indonesia.
He invited various elements of the public to create an environment that supports the growing development of the esports industry.
"I invite everyone to collaborate and work together to advance the esports industry as a development of the tourism ecosystem and creative economy in Indonesia," Sandiaga said in a press release, on Tuesday (04/27/2021).
He said that with the ongoing development of mobile games, it is not only in terms of growing the number of players, but also in terms of the creative economy and tourism industries.
This can be seen from a survey conducted by the Ministry of Communication and Information which recorded the growth in the number of mobile games developed by Indonesians from 2017 to 2019. There was an increase from 2017 to 332 games in 2019.
This shows that the esports industry is developing well in terms of creative economy. The presence of esports tournaments in several major countries seems to have become part of the tourist attraction. Therefore, the Ministry of Creative Economy is very supportive of the adding the number of esport tournaments.
"We really support various esport competitions. We also initiate the biggest esport competitions in Indonesia, and provide support for Indonesian gamers. Through the support of the Ministry of Creative Economy program, it is hoped that both players and game developers in Indonesia will compete domestically and at international level," Sandiaga said.
Earlier, the Indonesian Licensing Association (ASENSI) and Dyandra Promosindo inaugurated an esport tournament event for Mobile Legend. The tournament is set for female esport athletes.
The event will be held for two days starting Tuesday (04/27) to Wednesday (04/28), under the name of Dignity of Srikandi: Kartini Edition. The tournament is broadcasted live on YouTube Dignity Project Esports.
