PALEMBANG, NETRALNEWS.COM  - The glory of the ancient Sriwijaya Kingdom in the past has been set as the inspiration for the holding of the Sriwijaya Festival from June 16 to June 22, 2019, in the court of Benteng Kuto Besak (BKB), Palembang, South Sumatra.

Deputy of Marketing Development I of the Ministry of Tourism Rizki Handayani at the opening of the 2019 Sriwijaya Festival, said the glory of the past Sriwijaya Kingdom was an inspiration for South Sumatra to regain that success.

"The implementation of the Sriwijaya Festival can be called an adult, meaning that the quality of its implementation from year to year must be better and known to foreign countries so that it can bring tourists to Palembang. To be more successful, events like this must be supported by tourism associations in South Sumatra, "said Rizki Handayani.

Hopefully, continued Rizki, next year is not only the Sriwijaya Festival, another event in South Sumatra will be included in the National Calender of Event (CoE). And through this festival the opportunity to realize the collaboration of pentahelix elements to advance tourism in South Sumatra.

Moreover, the potential of the Musi River is very well known and must be optimized. The potential of ecotourism along the Musi River starts upstream can attract tourists, and this requires the synergy of the districts that are passed to package tourism development and improve quality 3A (Access, Amenities, and Attractions).

"Access to South Sumatra has also been very good, the amenability is adequate. Moreover, the Jakabaring Stadium, which was built at large costs, must be optimized. Only the attraction must be added, including through this Sriwijaya Festival, "explained Rizki, in his press release on Monday (6/17/2019).

The festival supported by the Ministry of Tourism was opened by the Governor of South Sumatra Herman Deru. In his speech Herman Deru said that the theme of the Festival this time was 'Srivijaya rose up together' which was based on the cultural diversity of South Sumatra.

"The combination of indigenous and immigrant cultures is expected to encourage South Sumatra to progress in cultural diversity," he said.

Meanwhile the Chairperson of the Top 100 Implementation Team for the Calender of Event at the Ministry of Tourism (Kemenpar) Esthy Reko Astuti revealed that the Sriwijaya Festival event began this year in one of 100 CoEs.

"We support efforts to attract tourists, including through events. Moreover, events that have the potential of culture, culinary, and heritage, including natural and artificial tourism," said Esthy Reko Astuti.

In addition, Palembang has been worldwide because it has successfully held the 2018 Asian Games sports event by having Jakabaring Sport City which is of international standard.

"Palembang, which has become a sports tourism destination, will have a wider tourist market, to Europe. As for the potential of nature, culture, nautical, the tourism market can be taken from ASEAN," he added.
