Banyuwangi Targets Becoming UNESCO Global Geopark (kemenpar)

BANYUWANGI, NETRALNEWS.COM - The Indonesia Ministry of Tourism is developing guidelines for Geopark Geotourism in Banyuwangi Regency, East Java, as an effort to develop Banyuwangi National Geopark as a UNESCO Global Geopark.

Gunawan Wimbawa, Head of Ecotourism at the Ministry of Tourism,  during the Forum Group Discussion (FGD) Preparation of Banyuwangi National Geopark Geowisata Path Guidelines, said he was looking for a geo-tourism path to integrate Geology with biological schemes and wealth in the Banyuwangi National Geopark area.

"This is at the same time formulating cross-sectoral joint steps in realizing the geotourism pathway to support the development of Banyuwangi National Geopark as a Global UNESCO Geopark and world tourism destinations," he said.

Later, there will be several geotourism paths, first the Traces of the formation of the Kaldera Gendeng/Ijen Tua, Secondly the Mount Meru Volcanic Rock Complex, Thirdly Reveal the Formation of Kars and Aluvium Alas Purwo, and the Landscape of Banyuwangi's culture.

Furthermore, Gunawan Wimbawa explained that in the activity to discuss the Geopark Banyuwangi Geotourism path by inviting various parties, he said there were three factors that determine the development of Geopark namely geology (biodiversity), biological (biodiversity) and culture.

"There are three factors must be fought for so that they can be utilized for the development of Geopark are tourist attractions," he said.

Gunawan explained, the development of Banyuwangi Geopark to become a tourist attraction requires various tourism objects to be developed, infrastructure development, including an increase in human resources (HR).

"In Indonesia, the government needs to provide assistance and education about the development of Geopark for all circles, including school children," Gunawan explained.
