BOGOR, NNC - The atmosphere around Vihara Dhanagun, Bogor, looked quiet in the morning. Only a few people came and gone for worshipping in the oldest vihara in the city known as city of rain.
Vihara Dhanagun is located at Jalan Surya Keniaan No 1, Babakan Market, Central Bogor, West Java. The place of worship is the oldest vihara in Bogor that has been hundreds of years old. That's why it is included in the cultural heritage.
Many versions has said about the age of the vihara, some says Vihara Dhanagun has been built in 1672, when the first Chinese ethnic group began to settle in Bogor. Another one says it was built in the early 18th century, when Chinese exodus from Batavia to Bogor, due to repressive actions of Dutch colonialists.
The vihara which located opposite the Bogor Botanical Garden is the center of religious activities of three religions at once: Taoism, Confucianism and Buddhism. In addition, the 635 square meter area vihara is a portrait of diversity and harmony of religious communities in the city of Bogor.
