BOLAANG MONGONDOW, NETRALNEWS.COM - Bolaang Mongondow Regent Yasti Soepredjo Mokoagow has expressed gratitude and appreciation for Indonesian Minister of Social Affairs Tri Rismaharini in being with the flood survivors. The community was greatly helped by the Ministry of Social Affairs' quick response in disaster handling.

"We thank the Minister for being present at the disaster site and greeting the refugees. This is very helpful in raising our motivation recover from the disaster," Yasti said.

The statement was made when accompanying Social Affairs Minister at the disaster site in Baru Merah Village, Sangklikang District, Bolaang Mongondow Regency, on Thursday night (09/30/2021).

The Minister of Social Affairs and her entourage arrived at the location at around 18.30 local time after traveling by land for about four hours from a work visit in Gorontalo Province. Arriving at the location, the Minister of Social Affairs immediately visited to the points affected by the disaster.

The Minister of Social Affairs crossed the remaining muddy flood path and saw a badly damaged house just below the hillside. The observation point shifted to the river bank to see the damage to the bridge.

During the observation, the Minister of Social Affairs and entourage witnessed the presence of pieces of wood and trees, some of which were still stuck at the mouth of the bridge. The Minister of Social Affairs received a report that the remains of the trees were the result of uncontrolled felling of trees from the top of the hill.

The Minister of Social Affairs conveyed an appeal to all parties to jointly protect the environment. The act of destroying the environment will only result in disaster for the community.

"Yes, we must do this together. Protecting the environment is a shared task of both the government and the public," said the Minister of Social Affairs.

To repair the damaged houses, the Ministry of Social Affairs allocates a budget. However, the Minister of Social Affairs will still wait for data from the local government.

The Minister of Social Affairs also greeted the children at the Psychosocial Support Services (LDP) tent. She asked the children to stay motivated and not forget to study.

"Keep your spirits up. Don't forget to study so that you become a smart child," said the Minister of Social Affairs while distributing children's food packages.

The Minister of Social Affairs also greeted some of the residents she met and asked them to be patient with the disaster.

"Stay patient, yes. And continue to pray that the condition will recover as usual," she said.

For flood survivors, the Ministry of Social Affairs has prepared assistance in the form of 1 Unit of Red and White multipurpose tent, 120 packages of ready-to-eat food/10 boxes, 120 packages of children's food/20 boxes, 100 sheets of blankets, 10 packages of kidswear, 50 packages of family kit, 5 packages of foodware , 100 sheet roll tents, 35 kitchen utensils 50 sheet mattresses, 20 folding mattresses, and 1 ton of regular rice. The total value of assistance in Bolaang Mongondow is IDR146,772,700.

The Ministry of Social Affairs, through the Taruna Siaga Disaster (Tagana), has provided a quick response since the beginning of the disaster. Together with other disaster management elements, Tagana carried out data collection and rapid assessment in affected locations, distributed aid, set up refugee camps, evacuated victims to safe places and carried out LDP activities.

Tagana also opened a public kitchen service in Buhu Village, Kec. Talgaajaya which produces 3,000 packs of rice/day. An independent soup kitchen service was also established in Tanah Merah Bolaang Mongondow Village.

On Friday (10/01/2021), the Minister of Social Affairs and her entourage will continue their trip to Manado City. The agenda of the Minister of Social Affairs in Manado is the distribution of ATENSI assistance and data matching for the Keluarga Harapan Program (PKH), Non-Cash Food Assistance (BPNT), and Cash Social Assistance (BST).
