Social Affairs Minister Inspects Location of Flash Flood DIsaster in Garut Regency

GARUT, NETRALNEWS.COM - There is no day off for Indonesian Minister of Social Affairs Tri Rismaharini. The weekend holiday actually became the beginning of a series of working visits by the Minister of Social Affairs, which continued until Monday night.
Starting on Sunday in Jember and Malang, East Java, the Minister of Social Affairs then moved to Bandung Regency in the afternoon. And Monday night, the Minister of Social Affairs arrived in Garut Regency to take a close look at the impact of the flash flood disaster.
At the location of the flash flood, Mekarwangi Village, Sukawening District, Garut Regency, the Minister of Social Affairs went straight to the disaster point on the banks of the Ciloa River. Accompanied by the Deputy Regent of Garut Helmi Budiman, Head of Social Services Office of Garut Ade Hendarsyah and members of the Forkompinda, the Minister of Social Affairs inspected the damaged houses hit by flash floods.
On the banks of the Ciloa River, the Minister of Social Affairs and other local officials discussed how to anticipate further disasters that could potentially still occur. Anticipation is needed to reduce losses as a result of disasters, both mental and material.

"Yes, Nauzubillah, let us hope that there are no more follow up disasters. But we still have to anticipate when it happens. There are several points here where if there is a follow-up disaster, it is feared that people's access will be cut off. For that we will build a social warehouse," said the Minister of Social Affairs at the flood site, Monday. (29/11/2021).
The Minister of Social Affairs said that social warehouses are needed to ensure that people in disaster areas can still access basic needs, even though transportation access is cut off. The social granary is not only filled with basic needs such as rice and other foodstuffs, but also generators, tents, kitchen necessities, rubber boats, fuel, and so on.
"So the contents are not only basic needs. But there are also equipment needed by the community to support their lives in disaster conditions," said the Minister of Social Affairs.
Social warehouses have been running in several disaster areas in the country. In Garut Regency, the coordinates of the social barns will still be studied more deeply by the local government.
"The location will be determined by the village heads or local officials. Because they are the ones who know best the conditions on the ground," said the Minister of Social Affairs.
In principle, the Ministry of Social Affairs ensures that it will provide support to local governments to cope with the impact of disasters. "We provide full support. If the logistics in the social granary run out, the report will be filled again later," continued the Minister of Social Affairs.
During her visit this time, the Minister of Social Affairs interacted a lot with the local Tagana team regarding what assistance had been given and the chronology of the events. The Minister of Social Affairs also had a dialogue with the Mekarwangi Village Head, Iwan Sutiawan and residents about what things he wanted to convey.
From the banks of the Ciloa River, the Minister of Social Affairs shifted to the refugee camps.
In the opportunity to meet with residents, especially children, the Minister of Social Affairs immediately distributed assistance in the form of children's food, and food packages for pregnant women, as well as the elderly.
To help residents affected by floods, the Ministry of Social Affairs distributed logistical assistance from the West Java Provincial Social Service Warehouse in the form of 1 ton of regular rice, 20 red rolled tents, 30 red mattresses, 30 packages of kids ware, 30 packages of food ware, and family kitchen utensils. 30 packages. Total assistance from the Ministry of Social Affairs from the Provincial Social Service Warehouse of West Java worth IDR76,797,230.
Next is the Ministry of Social assistance to support public kitchen services at two public kitchen points (according to needs) and 200 packages of basic food assistance with a total assistance of IDR 40,000,000.
From Balai Tan Miyat Bekasi, they provided assistance in the form of 1 unit of hearing aids, 200 packages of children's snacks, 72 packs of children's toys, school supplies for orphans, orphans and orphans (YAPI) for Covid victims, 3 packages, and nutritional needs for toddlers YAPI victims. Covid as much as 1 package.
The Ministry of Social Affairs team together with the Prov. West Java, the Social Service Office of Garut Regency and Tagana opened a public kitchen service with a total production of 2,000 packs of rice/day. Ready-to-eat rice was distributed to refugees and affected communities in the Sukawening and Karangtengah sub-districts.
Flash floods were caused by high-intensity rain that occurred in the Garut Regency area on Saturday, November 27, 2021, from noon to late afternoon. The flash flood was mainly due to the overflow of the Ciloa River that hit the Karang Tengah sub-district, namely Cintamanik Village, Cinta Village, and Caringin Village. Also affected by the Sukawening District are Sukawening Village, Sukamukti Village, Mekarwangi Village, and Sukawangi Village.
