JAKARTA, NETRALNEWS.COM - The Indonesian Ministry of Social Affairs have asked for re-approval of the eight heirs of National Heroes regarding the images of National Heroes used in Indonesia's Rupiah currency.

The eight families are families of National Heroes Soekarno, Mohammad Hatta, Raden Djuanda Kartawidjaya, Cut Meutia, Mohammad Husni Thamrin, KH Idham Chalid, Frans Kasiepo, and GSSJ Ratulangi.

"We ask the families of National Heroes for permission to use their images on rupiah bills," said Minister of Social Affairs Tri Rismaharini.

The statement was made by Tri Rismaharini, also known as Risma, accompanied by Director General of Social Empowerment Edi Suharto, at the residence of former President Soekarno's family in Jakarta, on Friday (10/08/2021).

Also attending the event were Assistant Governor of Bank Indonesia Dwi Pranoto, Director of BI Money Management Department Immaduddin Sahabat, and Head of Sub-Directorate of Cash Optimization at the Directorate of State Management of the Ministry of Finance Moch Abdul Kobir.

The Minister of Social Affairs further said that her office handles heroism, and does not just display images of heroes, but rather as an appreciation, and has a message for children to get to know the nation's heroes.

"Children must know the heroes, because it is not just a lesson, but can be used to strengthen the nation's character which is extraordinary. We have experience in Surabaya in the form of a special school teaching heroism to the younger generation not to give up and give up easily because we see the struggle of the nation's predecessors," Risma said.

According to the Minister of Social Affairs, at that time, the fighters lacked weapons and knowledge about war, but were abe to win. They also learned from the past kingdoms that fought but failed and were easily defeated by the invaders.

"This is important. When we are united, it turns out that we can win against the invaders, and in the end we can achieve Indonesian independence," said the Minister of Social Affairs.

Meanwhile, Guntur Soekarnoputra, the first son of former Soekarno, said that on behalf of the Soekarno family, he allowed for Soekarno's image to be used in rupiah, and was happy because it was an honor for the family as well as for the late Bung Karno.

"We appreciate the Minister of Social Affairs Risma for the plan to issue money with a photo of the Hero. Also, we encourage the government =to provide students with national hero character in schools," Guntur said.

A similar statement was also conveyed by the first child of the National Hero and former Vice President Mohammad Hatta, Meutia Hatta. She said that the publishing of images of heroes in rupiah currency is a history lesson for Indonesian children.

"I am very happy and give appreciation to the government because there is a picture of Bung Hatta (in rupiah). Of course it is also a history lesson for today's children and those who have not yet been born. I hope there will be more stories of national heroes like Bung Karno and Bung Hatta, which are included in the rupiah currency," Meutia added.
