PALANGKA RAYA, NETRALNEWS.COM - Indonesian Minister of Social Affairs Tri Rismaharini has chaired a Coordination Meeting with regional heads in Central Kalimantan Province. The coordination meeting discussed disaster mitigation measures in Central Kalimantan in anticipation of the peak of the February 2022 rainy season.

This meeting is a continuation of the Minister of Social Affairs' field visit yesterday to the evacuation site at the KONI Palangka Raya Sports Center, and to the disaster site in Flamboyant Baru Village, Langkai Village, Pahandut District.

Present at this meeting were representatives of four regions, namely Palangka Raya City, East Kotawaringin Regency, Katingan Regency, and Pulang Pisau Regency. In this meeting, each participant explained the local conditions, including determining the coordinates where the social aid centers could be built.

After the meeting, the Minister of Social Affairs stated that the social aid centers is a means to help disaster-affected communities still have access to basic needs.

However, the social aid centers do not only contain food logistics needs, but also several needs that support the continuity of the social life of the disaster-affected community.

"Like in Sintang (West Kalimantan), it's been a month and a half in an emergency. They also experienced blackouts," said the Minister of Social Affairs, in a statement received by Netralnews, on Thursday (11/25/2021).

The social aid centers may also store generators, fuel, rubber boats, water purifiers, water pumps, tents, as well as basic necessities.

Where the social aid centers are established will depend on the geographical conditions and regional needs. Therefore, said the Minister of Social Affairs, the approach is not administrative but rather geographical.

The regional heads participating in the coordination meeting expressed appreciation for the initiative and support of the Minister of Social Affairs Risma in overcoming the impact of the disaster.

As according to Palangka Raya Mayor Farid Naparin, the establishment of social granaries plays an important role in ensuring community access in disaster areas to their basic and social needs.

He said that in Palangka Raya City, social granaries have been established in five sub-districts.

"We have determined at five points in five sub-districts. But exactly where in the five sub-districts, we will determine with Forkompimda Palangka Raya," he said.

Yesterday the Minister of Social Affairs arrived in Palangka Raya to inspect the disaster site, greet the survivors and hand over aid. The Minister of Social Affairs visited the flood victims who are now occupying temporary shelters at the GOR of the Indonesian National Sports Committee (KONI) of Palangkaraya City. The Minister of Social Affairs checked the condition of the flood survivors and asked what their needs were that they felt were lacking.

At GOR KONI, the Minister of Social Affairs also distributed basic necessities, food and toys to children. The Minister of Social Affairs also seemed happy by playing and singing with the children to the accompaniment of songs.

The Minister of Social Affairs was greeted by the Deputy Governor of Central Kalimantan Edy Pratowo and the Mayor of Palangkaraya Farid Naparin. To regional leaders, the Minister of Social Affairs advised not to be careless.

The Minister of Social Affairs reminded regional heads to be vigilant, even though the current flood in Central Kalimantan has receded. Because, it does not indicate that the disaster has passed.

Citing forecasts from the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), the Minister of Social Affairs said that the peak of the rainy season is expected to occur in February.
