JAKARTA, NETRALNEWS.COM - Italy midfielder Marco Verratti says it defeating England at Wembley in the Euro 2020 final is a dream of his. He also insisted that his team will go into the final without fear.

England booked their first European Cup final place after winning 2-1 in extra time against Denmark at Wembley on Wednesday. Now they face the Azzurri, who beat Spain on penalties at the same stadium the day before.

Gareth Southgate's England side have won 15 of their last 17 matches at Wembley in all competitions, scoring 46 goals and conceding five. However, this record did not bother Verratti at all.

"We watched the match (against Denmark) together," he told a news conference, as quoted by Reuters on Friday(07/09/2021).

"England are tough and they have players who are technically good too."

"They deserve to be in this final in a stadium they know well. It would be a dream to win in their stadium."

"We are used to playing in stadiums like this, it will also give us strength. We are not afraid. We are happy they won, now we are both playing in a historic final."

Italy are well acquainted with Wembley, having also defeated Austria in extra time in their last 16 clash at this stadium, before beating top-ranked Belgium in Munich and then Spain.

England reached the final thanks to a penalty converted by captain Harry Kane following a controversial foul on Raheem Sterling.

"The penalty was a gift," added Verratti. "It was an important goal, they won the game."

The Paris St Germain midfielder missed the start of the Euros with a knee problem after an injury-plagued domestic season, and is grateful to be part of Italy's journey to the final, as reported by Antara.

"Three or four days after the injury I thought I would not be fit for this tournament," he added.

"The nightmare of missing Euro 2016 (also due to injury) has resurfaced, but thanks to the medical staff of the national team, I was able to play this time and do it in great shape."
