JAKARTA, NETRALNEWS.COM - Fans at the All England Club will have much to celebrate during the two-week Wimbledon as the championship returns to the tennis calendar for the first time since 2019. In addition, the men's and women's finals are set to be played at 100 percent capacity on Center Court.
"We are continuing to work closely with the government to finalize details, including requirements and certification of COVID-19 status for spectators," organizers at the All England Club said in a statement on Wednesday (06/16/2021), as quoted from the ATP Tour website.
The Wimbledon championship, which starts on June 28, will take place with spectator capacity of 50 percent around the pitch. However, the spectator capacity will continue to be increased as the two weeks of matches progress until it is full capacity on the last weekend of the match on July 10-11.
This will make the Wimbledon Championship final the first sporting event in the United Kingdom (UK) to be played at 100 percent capacity since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.
"This allows us to fulfill our aspirations of holding the Wimbledon Championship well under the current circumstances. We will continue to take care of the health and safety of all those who have made Wimbledon possible. The guests, participants, members, staff, media, officials, local residents, and partners remain our highest priority," the All England Club said, as reported by Antara.
