JAKARTA, NETRALNEWS.COM - The Indonesian government is collaborating with several digital and social media platforms as well as telecommunications providers to track the movements of people during the implementation of emergency PPKM social restriction measures.

"The central government has also collaborated with several digital platforms and social media as well as telecommunication providers that can track people's mobility during the emergency PPKM," said Spokesperson for the Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Jodi Mahardi in a press statement broadcasted by the Presidential Secretariat's YouTube channel, on Saturday (07/03/2021).

Through this tracking, all officials and related parties will be able to make mitigation and intervention efforts to reduce the risk of COVID-19 transmission.

"If there is a fairly massive people movement that is tracked, the system will provide a notification and it will be conveyed to the regional government and relevant officials in charge of the area for immediate mitigation and intervention measures," Jodi said.

Jodi added that Indonesia's military and Police had also prepared troops to carry out law enforcement in the context of emergency PPKM.

He said that the actions taken for violations in the emergency PPKM policy are in accordance with the applicable laws.

For regional officials who violate the Emergency PPKM, they can be subject to sanctions as stipulated in Law Number 23 Year 2014 on Regional Government, with disciplinary regulations in each agency.

Furthermore, criminal provisions are also based on Law Number 4 Year 1984 on Infectious Disease Outbreaks, Law Number 6 Year 2018 on Health Quarantine, and the Criminal Code Articles 212-218.

"Once again, we emphasize that the emergency PPKM aims to reduce virus transmission by limiting non-essential mobility, and ultimately controlling the rate of transmission of COVID-19," Jodi said.

On the other hand, the government will also continue to increase tests with the right targets to be able to find out the map of the spread and map of the risk of COVID-19 in the public.

"For this reason, it is requested that regional heads and relevant officials take preventive steps to anticipate so that the spreading of the virus can be prevented," Jodi added, as reported by Antara.
