PONOROGO, NETRALNEWS.COM - Ponorogo Regent Sugiri Sancoko believes he can handle cases of people with intellectual disabilities in several villages in Ponorogo Regency. Sugiri says he will meet with Indonesian Minister of Social Affairs Tri Rismaharini as soon as possible to formulate good cooperation.

"I am going to Jakarta to meet the Social Affairs Minister. I will carry the policy concept of how to solve the problem for a generation. I will meet with her explaining my concept, and then collaboration will take place with the Ministry of Social Affairs," said Sugiri when meeting the Social Affairs Minister at the Ponorogo Regent's Office on Tuesday (06/15/2021).

On that occasion, Minister of Social Affairs Tri Rismaharini, also known as Risma, also mentioned the need to find a solution to solve the problem. "The Ministry of Social Affairs is ready to cooperate with the Ponorogo Regency Government," she continued.

Sugiri hopes that with this collaboration, he can immediately overcome the problem that has been a homework for years. Sugiri does hnot want to react with various views and studies that state that the problem arises because of incest, unclean water, or lack of nutrition.

"I think everything is true. What is not yet is how we deal with it with real measures. So, together with the Social Affairs Minister, we will find a solution so that this problem can be overcome," he said.

Sugiri said the concept that will be presented in front of the Minister of Social Affairs would put more focus on addressing the issue of descent or lineage of local residents. Before they get married, it will be ensured that the prospective bride and groom do not come from close kinship. "It can be traced. It will be more detectable," Sugiri said.

He did not deny that this was done by establishing a kind of dormitory. The dormitory will also teach reading, arithmetic, Koran reading, and skills.

"That way they are provoked to think, be creative, and work. They are taught how to make prayer beads or whatever, so that the brain can think normally," he said.

There are two villages that are often referred to as idiot villages. Namely Krebet Village, Jambon District and Karangpatihan Village, Balong Ponorogo District. After being sworn in as Minister of Social Affairs, Tri Rismaharini has made a working visit to the two villages.

During her visit, Social Affairs Minister Risma handed over assistance in the form of basic necessities, wheelchairs, personal protective equipment (PPE), mat-making equipment as well as splashed batik materials and cash. People with special needs (disability) in Jambon and Balong can be trained to receive social empowerment programs.
